Arcia Joins Home Run Derby

FORT MYERS, FL (June 14, 2012) - The Florida State League announced today that Fort Myers Miracle outfielder Oswaldo Arcia has been added to the Florida State League All-Star Game Home Run Derby. The derby will take place immediately prior to the 51st Annual FSL All-Star Game presented by Under Armour on Saturday, June 16, at Charlotte Sports Park. The derby is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.

Arcia has seven home runs this season and is hitting .314 with 31 RBI's. The 21-year old slugger has hit 15 home runs in 113 career games with the Miracle.

The most recent Miracle representative in the Florida State League Home Run Derby was Chris Parmelee in 2009. Parmelee won the title defeating St. Lucie Mets outfielder Kirk Nieuwenhuis.

Eight men have been named to participate in the derby, which will feature two rounds of 10 outs apiece. Every swing is either a home run or an out. Each division will have four participants, and after all eight have completed the first round, the two players with the highest home run total will advance to the finals.

The FSL South Division participants are: Outfielder Marcell Ozuna (15) of the Jupiter Hammerheads, outfielder Cory Vaughn (12) from the St. Lucie Mets, and shortstop Derek Dietrich (6) from the host Charlotte Stone Crabs.

For the FSL North Division, the hitters who will take part in the derby will be: Infielder Greg Rohan (11) and outfielder Nelson Perez (11) from the Daytona Cubs, second baseman Ryan Schimpf (7) of the Dunedin Blue Jays, and outfielder Avisail Garcia (7) of the Lakeland Flying Tigers.

The 51st Annual Florida State League All-Star Game presented by Under Armour will be played on Saturday, June 16, at Charlotte Sports Park. The Miracle will be represented by pitchers Pat Dean, Ricky Bowen, catcher Josmil Pinto, infielder Daniel Santana and Arcia.
