Charlotte Stone Crabs News Release

JUPITER -- The Jupiter Hammerheads are starting to make a habit of comeback victories over the Charlotte Stone Crabs. One night after staging a ninth inning rally, Jupiter exploded for six runs in the fifth inning to secure a series victory over Charlotte with a 10-5 win on Thursday.

All of the damage was done one base at a time for the Hammerheads. Jupiter collected 13 hits - all singles - and benefited from seven walks on their way to a 10-run afternoon.

Braulio Lara (4-5) had a wild fifth inning, opening the door for the Hammerheads to overcome the Stone Crabs' 4-0 lead. The lefty was charged with six earned runs - all coming in that fateful fifth - in 3-2/3 innings of work. Lara walked four and allowed six hits in taking the loss.

The game started off well, with Derek Dietrich's sacrifice fly giving Charlotte a 1-0 advantage. The Stone Crabs tacked on two more when Robi Estrada collected a two-run single in the second. An error allowed yet another run to come across, giving Charlotte four runs off Jupiter starter Rett Varner (3-1).

Everything changed in the fifth inning as the walks and a slew of base hits saw Jupiter score six times in the frame. Taylor Krick collected two of his three RBI's on a go-ahead single that put the Hammerheads on top to stay.

Jupiter put up for more in the bottom of the seventh, highlighted by Mark Canha's two-run single. That opened up a 10-4 advantage for the home team.

Mike Mahtook belted his third home run of the season in the ninth inning, but that blast would prove to be too little, too late.

The Stone Crabs will have one more series in the first half, but that will not take place until Monday. Next up, the 51st Annual Florida State League All-Star Game presented by Under Armour will take place at Charlotte Sports Park on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. Charlotte lefty C.J. Riefenhauser is scheduled to make the start for the South Division against Austin Kirk of the Daytona Cubs for the North Division.
