Wenatchee AppleSox News Release
BELLLINGHAM, Wash. - The Wenatchee AppleSox (12-18, 1-3 second half) dropped the series opener with the Bellingham Bells, 13-1, on Friday night at Joe Martin Field.
The AppleSox and the Bells met for the fourth consecutive day, this time for the first time in Bellingham. It was the Bells who picked up a win for the third consecutive day.
Centerfielder Evan Williams went 2-for-3 to extend his hitting streak to five games, but the AppleSox could not stop a potent Bells' offense. Williams recorded his second consecutive multi-hit game in the loss.
The Bells stuck with what worked in the last two games and scored first. For the third straight game, Bellingham struck first and never trailed. In the first inning, Matt Jones blasted a two-run home run for his third long ball in as many days to give the Bells a 2-0 lead.
The AppleSox cut the deficit to one in the third inning when an error helped bring in their only run. Nick Seamons led off by putting down a bunt single and Williams reached on a walk two batters later. Johnny Sage hit a ball that shortstop Dylan Stroup could not handle, and Seamons rounded third to score with the extra time.
Bellingham plated two more runs in the bottom of that same inning to regain a multi-run lead. They scored three more in the sixth and six runs in the eighth to score double-digit runs in back-to-back games.
The two teams met again on Saturday night at 6:35 p.m. in Bellingham.
