
Appalachian League All-Star Team Announced

The Appalachian League has announced the 2004 Appalachian League All-Star Team along with the Player of the Year, Pitcher of the Year, and Manager of the Year. The team features players from nine of the ten teams in the league with the Danville Braves represented three times while the Bluefield Orioles, Greeneville Astros, and Johnson City Cardinals twice on the team.

C Cole Armstrong (Danville) hails from Surrey, BC, Canada in his first season in the Appy League after being part of the Braves Gulf Coast League Championship team last year. Currently Armstrong is 6th in the league in RBIs with 37 and tied for 6th in OBP at .411 while leading catchers in batting average, RBIs, and tied for the lead in on base percentage.
1B Ryan Finan (Bluefield) got off to hot start before falling to an injury in late July. Finan finished his season with a .333 batting average in 36 games with 21 RBIs, 5 home runs, and 12 doubles which is still good for tied for 10th in the league.
2B J.C. Holt (Danville) makes back to back All-Star 2B for Danville following in footsteps of last year's winner Mike Hanson. Holt is currently in the top 10 of four categories in the Appy League as he is ties for 3rd in stolen bases with 17, tied for 4th in double with 15, 6th in hits with 63, and 7th in batting average at .321.
3B Tony Granadillo (Johnson City) has already began his movement within the Cardinals organization moving up to the New Jersey Cardinals of the New York-Penn League. Granadillo remains in the top 10 of six categories including 3rd in slugging percentage at .565, tied for 4th in home runs with 10, 5th in OBP at .413, 6th in runs scored with 40, tied for 7th in extra-base hits with 21, and 10th in batting average at .315.
SS Jose Lucena (Johnson City) joins fellow Cardinal Granadillo to make up the left side of the All-Star infield. Lucena tops the Appy League in batting average at .349, which is nine points higher than 2nd place, with 61 hits, good for 7th in the league, in 175 at bats.
U-INF Jose De Los Santos (Bristol) fills the utility position on the All-Star team by having played 11 games at 2B, 18 at 3B, and 6 at SS. Del Los Santos is known for his singles by leading the league with 53 while placing 5th in total hits with 64.
OF Deacon Burns (Elizabethton) was the 26th round pick of the Twins in the June 2004 draft out of Northern St. University in South Dakota but has made a name for himself in the Appy League. Burns leads the league in doubles with 20, four more than 2nd place, and is tied for the lead in hits with 70 while placing in the top 10 in four other categories as he is 2nd in extra-base hits with 29, 5th in RBIs with 38, 8th in slugging percentage with .516, and. 8th in runs with 38.
OF and Player of the Year Mitch Einertson (Greeneville) has come out of high school in Oceanside, CA and taken the Appy League by storm. Einertson is having a historical season while leading the league in home runs with 22, which is tied second most in league history and only two behind the league record, RBIs with 60, extra-base hits with 34, and slugging percentage at .680 while also in the top 10 of runs tied for 4th with 43 and tied for 10th in both hist with 60 and doubles with 12.
OF Yuber Rodriquez (Pulaski) is the only Blue Jay on the team but represents them proudly. Rodriguez is tied for the league lead in hits with 70 and the lead in triples with 5 while placing in the top 10 of seven other categories as he is 3rd in RBIs with 44, 3rd in extra-base with 24, tied for 4th in runs scored with 43, tied for 7th in double with 13, 8th in batting average at .318, 8th in OBP at .409, and 10th in slugging percentage at .505.
U-OF Carl Loadenthal (Danville) joins his Braves teammates Armstrong and Holt on the All-Star team. Loadenthal leads the league in runs scored with 55 and finds himself 3rd in hits with 67, 9th in batting average at .316, tied for 9th in stolen bases with 11, and 10th in OBP at .403.
DH Seth Pietsch (Kingsport) started off the season with back to back player of the week honors and finished the season on the All-Star team. Pietsch currently is tied for lead in triples with 5, 2nd in RBIs with 45, 3rd in runs scored with 44, 3rd in home runs with 11, tied for 5th in extra-base hits with 22, 6th in slugging percentage at .529, and tied for8th in hits with 60.
RHP Robert McCrory (Bluefield) is another All-Star who has got the call up as he moved up to the Aberdeen Ironbirds of the New York-Penn League. McCrory finished with a 4-3 reocrd and a league low ERA of 1.92 in 51 2/3 innings of work and gave up only 42 hits while striking out 51 batters good for 9th in the league.
LHP and Co-Pitcher of the Year Reid Santos (Burlington) returned for a second season with the Indians and proceeded to be named Co-Pitcher of the Year. Santos currently leads the league in innings pitched with 64 2/3 innings while 2nd in strikeouts with 67 and ERA at 2.78.
Relief P Enyelbert Soto (Greeneville) closes out the All-Star just as he has closed out 13 games for Greeneville to lead the league in saves. Soto has an ERA of .84 in 32 innings in 21 games while striking out 43 of the 121 batters he has faced this year.
Co-Pitcher of the Year Steven Duguay (Elizabethton) joins Santos for the first Co-Pitchers of the since 2002 when another Twin Rickey Barrett shared the title with Danville's Anthony Lerew. Duguay leads the league with 68 strikeouts and is 5th in ERA at 3.21 in 53 1/3 innings of work with a 4-4 record.
Manager of the Year Tim Bogar (Greeneville) is in his first season as a professional manager for the Astros. Bogar, only three years removed from his nine year Major League playing career, has led Greeneville to a current record of 37-23 while winning 27 of their last 38 games to take a three game lead in the Western Division with seven games remaining.
