High Point-Thomasville HiToms News Release
THOMASVILLE, N.C. - The Appalachian State Mountaineers will face off against the Campbell Fighting Camels on Wednesday, April 17 at historic Finch Field in Thomasville, North Carolina. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
The Camels (31-7), coming off a series win against Longwood, are enjoying one of the finest seasons in the program's history. Campbell, hitting .319 as a team, has been paced offensively by senior outfielder Ben McQuown and junior outfielder Clayton Brown. McQuown, a Waianae, Hawaii, native, enters the week hitting .352 and leads the nation with 38 stolen bases. Brown meanwhile is hitting a blistering .426 with only 15 strikeouts in 108 at-bats. Junior pitcher, Ryan Thompson, has been a formidable presence on the mound this season. The right-hander leads the team with a 1.07 ERA and has struck out 34 in 42 innings of work while recording only 10 walks.
Appalachian State comes into the week having won its last three conference series. The Mountaineers (20-11) took 2 of 3 from UNCG this past weekend and find themselves within a game-and-a-half of first-place in the Southern Conference. Senior shortstop Will Callaway and senior second baseman Hector Crespo are leading the Mountaineers offensively and are currently sporting eight and nine game hitting streaks respectively. Freshman outfielder Jaylin Davis, a local product (McLeansville, NC / Northeast Guilford), is coming off a torrid weekend in which he went 7-13 against his hometown Spartans. Senior catcher Gabe Dimock (Greensboro, NC / Grimsley) has also impressed as of late. Dimock has hit safely in every game since making his collegiate debut on March 31 against Wofford.
