Winston-Salem Polar Twins News Release

[WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.] – Steve Roberts had two goals, both on the power play, to lead the Fayetteville FireAntz to a 6-1 lead over the Winston-Salem Polar Twins Saturday night in Southern Professional Hockey League action.

Roberts' first power play tally at 9:27 of the first period put Fayetteville up 1-0. With only four seconds remaining on a Polar Twins' penalty, Andrew Dickson found Roberts who was wide open at the left goal post. The FireAntz leading goal scorer made quick work of the open net for his 17th goal of the season.

Fayetteville would score a total of five goals before the Polar Twins could get past FireAntz goaltender Glen Ridler. Roberts scored his second of the game on the power play just 1:01 into the middle frame for a 2-0 Fayetteville lead. Josh Fey, Tyler Perry, and Nick Kormanyos also scored for the FireAntz in the second period for the 5-0 lead heading into the third.

Shaun Aebig got the Twins on the board at the 10:01 mark of the final period with a power play tally from Trevor Karasiewicz and Geoff Rollins but it would not be enough as Fayetteville Captain Mike Fournier put the last nail in the coffin for a 6-1 final.

This week the Polar Twins take to the road with games in Macon on Tuesday, Huntsville on Thursday, Asheville on Friday, and Columbus on Saturday.
