San Rafael Pacifics News Release
SAN RAFAEL, Calif. - Marin Academy product Ross Pomerantz gave the San Rafael Pacifics six strong innings as the ballclub won its tenth consecutive game with yet another come-from-behind victory on Thursday at Albert Park. The 7-2 victory over the Prescott Montezuma Federals made Pomerantz (3-1) a winner in his sixth start of the season.
Pomerantz spotted the Federals (16-21) a two-run lead headed into the third before the Pacifics (46-14) bats awoke. Price Kendall, who reached on an error, advanced on a passed ball and then scored from second on Chase Fontaine's double to right. Kyle Dhanani followed with a single and Federals starter Lars Liguiri (1-5) did himself no favors by recording an error that allowed Fontaine to score and tie the game. Maikel Jova grounded out but scored Dhanani, who moved to second on the error and stole third, to give San Rafael the lead, 3-2.
"I felt very comfortable tonight. We worked inside fastballs tonight. After playing them in Arizona, we knew that they could go out and hit the outside pitch so we went with the inside fastball," said Pomerantz. "If I do my job I expect my teammates to pick me up and they did absolutely that."
Jova surprised the Albert Park crowd with his first triple of the season in the fifth. That brought home Johnny Woodard, who extended his hitting streak to seven games. He had two hits, which gives him 20 multi-hit games, to go with a run and an RBI. The first baseman has now reached base safely in 16 consecutive games.
Fontaine (run, 2 RBIs) and Price Kendall (4-for-5, two runs) each drove home a run in the sixth and Kendall drove home one last run in the seventh.
Pomerantz finished with seven strikeouts and allowed just two hits before giving way to Dan Rogers, who pitched a scoreless seventh and eighth innings. After allowing a leadoff hit, Nate King struck out the side in the ninth.
San Rafael has Friday off, then will play a three-game set on the road versus the East Bay Lumberjacks. On Saturday, August 10 the two teams will play at 12:00 p.m. at Wilson Park in Vallejo, Calif. and on Sunday, August 11 will play a doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m. at San Leandro Ball Park.
"We just try to take care of the task at hand, we don't really like to think ahead," said Pomerantz. "We have a pretty comfortable lead right now, we'll just keep going out and do what we do."
