Announcing the 2013 Boston Lobsters

March 17, 2013 - World TeamTennis (WTT) - Boston Lobsters News Release

The Boston Lobsters have their roster for the 2013 Mylan World TeamTennis season.

This year's team includes veteran Eric Butorac, along with newcomers Jill Craybas, Paola Suarez and Amir Weintraub. The lineup was completed at the league draft on Tuesday, March 12 in Indian Wells, California.

"We got our first round pick that we wanted (Craybas), and we got pretty much everyone that was on our board who we had rated really high in ability level and the mental and psychological make-up that we are looking for to get through the 14 matches in 18 days," said Lobsters head coach Bud Schultz, who is in his fifth year in that position.

Butorac, a Cambridge, Mass. resident when not on tour, will return for his fourth season. "To be playing at home in Boston once again is great and I look forward to welcoming our teammates," said Butorac, who's won 13 doubles titles and last year had victories over Bob and Mike Bryan (Texas Wild) and Leander Paes (Washington Kastles). Craybas is playing her first season with the Lobsters, second in the league. The Providence, Rhode Island native has won 5 doubles titles and 1 singles title, defeated

Serena Williams at Wimbledon and was a 2008 Olympian. She already has familiarity with one of her teammates.

"Jill and I made the semis of the US Open mixed doubles a few years ago and she is one of my best friends on the tour. She is going to be a great addition," Butorac said. Suarez is making her league debut. The Argentine has 44 doubles titles, including 8 Grand Slams, and been world number 1. Weintraub, a member of the Israeli Davis Cup team, last year played against the Lobsters as a member of the Springfield Lasers. "I was really impressed with his game," Butorac said. "He has had some really big wins for Israel in Davis Cup and obviously thrives in the team format."

Mark Philippoussis Joining the Lobsters will be former Top 10 player Mark Philippoussis. The team will open its season hosting the New York Sportimes, Sunday, July 7. On July 13 Philippoussis joins the team in Texas and then at home for at least three more matches . All home matches start at 7 p.m. and will be played at the new Joan Norton Tennis Center at the Manchester Athletic Club. The Mylan WTT season runs from July 7-24, with teams playing 14 matches, culminating with the finals, Sunday, July 28.

The Adventures of Little Larry

Junior mascot "Little Larry" traveled to Indian Wells, CA for this year's roster draft. He had a lot of fun and met some rather famous legend of tennis. Did you know that Bud Collins gave the Lobsters' their name? It's true!

Stay tuned for more fun to come, later this year. Look forward to a 70's throwback night as we celebrate Bud Collins, Billie Jean King, and more, as we approach the 40th anniversary of the historic "Battle of the Sexes" King-Riggs match.
