Richmond RiverDogs News Release

RICHMOND, VA - In front of 4,025, the Richmond RiverDogs entertained and thrilled the hometown faithful with a feisty 4-2 win over cross-state rival Roanoke Valley Vipers. With their second straight win, the RiverDogs move three points ahead of Elmira and four over Roanoke Valley. The Vipers got on the board early on a power play goal from L.P. Martin just 1:36 into the contest. Dan Vandermeer tied the score late in the period. Roanoke Valley went ahead 2-1 on a Mike Wiggins power play goal at 8:58. Mike Oliveira tied the score 2-2 midway through the period. In the third period, newcomer Cody Doucette scored his first professional goal, which also was the game winner at 1:44. Bobby Kukulka scored at 15:56, completing the team's first Gordie Howe Hat Trick (Goal, Assist, Fight) of the season and iced the victory for the RiverDogs. The fans were treated to some more exciting hockey, similar to Wednesday night's funfest against Port Huron, with plenty of fights, snarling and growling, which will probably carry over to tomorrow night when the same two teams meet in Roanoke. Mike D'Alessandro was, again, named the #1 star of the game with another top-notch performance between the pipes, stopping 25 of 27 Viper shots. It was also the RiverDogs second straight game in which the team has outshot the opposition, firing 35 shots at Roanoke Valley's Shawn Conschafter.

The RiverDogs next home contest is Sunday, January 22nd when the Missouri River-Otters come to town. It will be Fox Post-game Skate with the RiverDogs. Fans are encouraged to bring their skates and join the Dogs on Richmond Coliseum ice following the contest for pictures, autographs and a whole lot of fun.

Season tickets, FlexPaks, Richmond Times-Dispatch Family 4 Packs and group packages are available through the RiverDogs office. For more information call the RiverDogs at 804-225-PUCK (7825).
