Wilson Tobs News Release
Wilson, N.C. - Get ready Tobs fans! Coming at you this week is a trio of talented outfielders. Covering the outfield grass and adding power to the lineup is Gunner Peterson (Illinois State University), Quintin Ivy (Wilmington University), and Kevin Brenning (University of North Alabama). We look forward to seeing these heavy hitters perform during the 2020 season and we know our fans are too. Come watch these three key outfielders this summer at Historic Fleming Stadium!
First up we have Gunner Peterson, a true baseball name. A power lefty batter as a freshman, Peterson was a big part of helping his team make a regional run during the 2019 season. In 2019 he started in 44 games, mostly in left field, while slashing a .256 BA with a .354 OB%. Peterson's power bat was obvious as he laced 12 doubles, 6 home runs, and 27 RBI's. He kept this momentum going in a shortened 2020 season, leading his team in OB% (.462) and BA (.364). Peterson looks to keep his hot streak going as he enters the middle of the lineup for the Tobs this summer.
Next up we have the all-around athlete, Quinton Ivy. Ivy looks to show off his speed and power from the right side of the outfield with his 6'3 215lb frame. He fits well into Coach Markotay's offensive game plan with his knack for consistent hard contact and ability to take his walks when needed. Ivy led his team to regionals in 2019 with a power bat and consistent ability to perform. He was second team all-CACC player who appeared in 38 games in the outfield and as a DH. He batted .368 and smashed seven home runs. During a short 2020 season Ivy was able to post a .370 OB% with one home run and 4 stolen bases. Ivy provides the base running threat the Tobs are looking for at the top of the batting order, we are excited to see what he will do during the 2020 season.
Last but not least, we have the athletic monster Kevin Brenning. A 6 foot 5, left-handed powerhouse outfielder, Brenning brings the gap to gap power and ability to steal bases the Tobs need. His speed and bat control fits comfortably into the Tobs' high powered offense and allows him to bat up and down the lineup. As a true freshman Brenning played in 37 games with an impressive .431 OB%. He posted a .330 BA with 22 runs scored, 13 RBI's, and 6 stolen bases. In 2019 Brenning led the team in their first season in Division I with a .294 BA,.351 OB%, and reached base in 18 straight games. He tacked on 19 runs scored, 18 RBI's, seven doubles, three home runs, and an incredible 11-for-11 on stolen base attempts. Brenning started in all 16 games in 2020 while posting a .394 OB% before the virus outbreak brought an end to that. Brenning gives Coach Markotay a well-rounded left-handed hitter that can go to the opposite field as well as pull the ball. We are excited to see him in action and look forward to seeing him help the Tobs make another championship push.
