Angel City FC News Release
LOS ANGELES - Today, Angel City Football Club (ACFC)announced the signing of France Women's National Team midfielder Amandine Henry to a three-year contract with an option for an additional year. Henry will be available in the upcoming transfer window.
"I enjoyed my previous seasons [2016 and 2017] in the NWSL because of the level of play, the dedication of the fans and great teammates, so I am excited to now be a part of Angel City," said Henry. "I can't wait to be a part of a new team, help write history, and win with the club."
"Amandine is a player who has competed at the highest and most competitive levels," stated ACFC General Manager Angela Hucles Mangano. "She has led for both her club and country. Her quality of football performance and commitment to the success of our team will make her an invaluable part of our roster."
Henry comes to ACFC from the Division 1 Féminine club Olympique Lyonnais, where she has spent the past six seasons, scoring 19 goals in 89 match appearances with a total of 6,890 minutes on the pitch. She was also a part of the club from 2007 to 2016. Overall, Henry has helped lead the club to 13 Division 1 Féminine titles, eight Coupe de France Championships, and seven UEFA Champions League wins.
Prior to her most recent stint with Lyon, Henry signed with the Portland Thorns in 2016, making her first Thorns FC and NWSL appearance when she entered in the 52nd minute against the Western New York Flash on June 17, 2016. She scored her first NWSL goal against the Boston Breakers on May 27, 2017, and contributed to Portland's 2017 NWSL Championship title. While in the NWSL, she appeared in 33 total matches for the Portland Thorns, scoring six goals in two seasons.
Originally from Lille, France, Henry's professional career started in 2004 at just 15 years old when she joined FCF Hénin-Beaumont, a French women's football club based in Hénin-Beaumont, France. She would then attend the women's section of the Clairefontaine Academy for two seasons before joining Lyon in 2007. During her first tenure with Lyon, Henry helped lead the club to three UEFA Champions League titles (2011, 2012, 2016), nine-straight Division 1 Féminine titles (2008-16), and five consecutive French Cups (2012-2016). She made 198 appearances with Lyon, scoring 44 goals.
Henry has been a member of the France Women's National Team since 2009 compiling 13 goals in 93 total caps. Since then she appeared in the 2014 Cyprus Cup, helped lead the roster to a 2017 SheBelieves Cup title, and also made two FIFA World Cup appearances in 2015 and 2019. In the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup, she won the Silver Ball and was named to the tournament's all-star team. She was also named among the best players in Europe in 2015, becoming a finalist in the annual UEFA Best Women's Player in Europe Award.
