Angel City FC News Release

LOS ANGELES - Today, Angel City Football Club (ACFC), Los Angeles' professional women's soccer team, revealed the team's inaugural kit for matches at the Banc of California Stadium. The jersey design is steeped in meaning as the intricate details mirror the iconic Los Angeles sunrise and the idea that ACFC represents something new, impactful, and game-changing.

The jersey is made by Nike with sustainable, 100% recycled polyester fibers. It features breathable side panels, Nike Dri-FIT technology, and a unique neckline. The jersey is primarily black with ACFC's custom colors Sol Rosa and Armour detailing. The color of the Angel City FC crest, Nike swoosh, sponsors, player name, and number are Sol Rosa, and the geometric pattern is Armour.

"Our inaugural jersey will be one for the history books," said ACFC founding investor and soccer legend Abby Wambach. "This sets a new and rightful standard on what women's sports are worth and what a team can mean to the community. We will wear it proudly. This is THE jersey. Our jersey."

With the launch of ACFC's inaugural kit, a new era for women's sports is here, represented by the geometric sunrise design, which symbolizes the first light on a dark horizon and the start of a new day. The zigzag pattern found between the rows of sunrise graphics mirrors the official flag of the City of Los Angeles. The jersey has a classic, time-honored look, made for any generation to sport. The team mantra - "VOLEMOS" - is on the nape of the neck as a reminder to always keep flying to greater heights, together.

"My favorite part is the subtle reminder that we are doing things differently," said ACFC founding investor and soccer legend Julie Foudy. "It looks so good. I am going to rock it in the stands like the crazy fan that I am going to be. We have been talking about this for so long, and it is finally here."

Jersey to directly benefit Los Angeles community

In addition to the jersey's unique symbolism, it is arguably one of the most impactful kits in global soccer. Over the next several years, ACFC will allocate nearly $2 million into the community in partnership with the team's three jersey partners: DoorDash, Birdies, and Sprouts Farmers Market. This impact is made possible through the team's groundbreaking sponsorship model, where 10% of the sponsorship value benefits the community.

Front-of-kit sponsor DoorDash is making their foray into professional soccer with a significant multi-year commitment that is the largest sponsorship in NWSL history. Alongside ACFC, DoorDash is committed to delivering over 250,000 meals to combat food insecurity in the Los Angeles area during the life of the multi-year partnership with 75,000 thus far in 2021.

Female-founded direct-to-consumer footwear brand Birdies is the exclusive sleeve-of-kit sponsor supporting ACFC's mission to empower girls and women to pursue their dreams. Earlier this year, they launched the one-of-a-kind SOAR Internship Program, a six-week paid internship for high school juniors and seniors pursuing this goal.

Back-of-kit sponsor Sprouts Farmers Market joined with ACFC to address nutrition education and fresh food access throughout Los Angeles. On March 20, ACFC and Sprouts partnered to revitalize a Los Angeles Unified School District school garden site with EnrichLA-their first community-based project. Through this partnership, we have also delivered more than 40,000 servings of healthy foods through Food Forward and The Garden School Foundation, in addition to providing the essential supplies and equipment for eight school garden education programs for the 2021-2022 school year.

Jersey to help create pathways for former NWSL players to secure jobs in sports

In September, ACFC launched the Angel City Player 22 Future Program and the subsequent retirement of the No. 22 jersey. Once the official home kit is available for purchase in 2022, the team will allocate 10% of the revenue generated from the sale of the No. 22 jersey to the fund, which creates pathways for all former National Womens' Soccer League (NWSL) players interested in pursuing a career in the sports industry. Whether coaching, refereeing, media, or front office roles, the ultimate goal is to prepare players for entry into the workforce following their professional soccer career. The number 22 was chosen as a nod to the team's Spring 2022 kickoff and celebrates the 22 players on the pitch in every match.

Experience the jersey on Instagram

Along with the jersey reveal, ACFC today launched an augmented reality Instagram filter where fans can experience and share it on their own channels. Using the phone's camera, fans around the globe can place the jersey on themselves or in their own environment. Fans can go to @weareangelcity on Instagram to use the filter.

Jersey availability

Due to global supply chain challenges, the kit will be available for purchase in early 2022. Fans can register at AngelCity.com, and be the first to know when the jersey becomes available for purchase at the ACFC online store and other retailers.

The jersey was created by well-known art director and graphic designer Matthew Wolff. The process was overseen by ACFC's Head of Content, Jennifer Pransky, and Head of Commerce, Katie Eaton.
