Angel City FC News Release
LOUISVILLE, KY(August 19, 2023) - Angel City Football Club returns to regular season play as they prepare to face Racing Louisville FC at Lynn Family Stadium, tonight at 4:30 pm PT on Bally Sports SoCal and Paramount+. Interim Head Coach Becki Tweed and midfielder Elizabeth Eddy discussed the final stretch of the regular season and preparing for this weekend's match.
ACFC Midfielder Elizabeth Eddy
On how she has been able to fit in the group:
"It's been really awesome. I know quite a few of the girls from either playing with them in college, or playing against them in this league for a number of years, as well as the coaching staff who I knew from when I was playing at NJ/NY Gotham FC. That definitely helped a lot of the seamless transition."
"At the same time, in team sports humans are humans and if you ask them how they're doing, engage with them, and actually make friends with people, it helps a ton. I've really enjoyed getting to know all the girls on the team."
On signing with the club for the rest of the season and her goals moving forward:
"I am ecstatic, stoked, and really thankful. At the end of the day, team sports are dynamic and there's a lot of moving pieces. I'm thankful that God opened the door for this opportunity. I want to continue to make him proud and do the best I can with the opportunity he gives me."
"In regards to my goals for the rest of the season, is to do whatever I can to help the team find ways to win. There's a lot of sub points to that statement, and I would say daily and weekly that will look like different roles. I'm excited to be part of the group and try to help push our limits to get us to the highest level we can."
On how the team is looking ahead of the match against Racing Louisville FC:
"We're coming off of the slightly longer break between games and heading into that final third of the regular season. It has been quite a bit of a break, which is not always the most fun as a player because you love playing games. It's also been a really good time for us to work on new things, continue to build our relationships and get more on the same page."
"With the girls back from the World Cup, it's been really cool having them join the team and continue pushing the level higher. We're really excited for our game tomorrow and can't wait to bring it to Louisville."
ACFC Interim Head Coach Becki Tweed
On availability against Racing Louisville FC as players return from the World Cup:
"Alyssa [Thompson] and Ali [Riley] both made the trip and both are available to play. As for Jun [Endo] and Julie [Ertz], obviously Jun stayed in the tournament a little later and Julie just needs a little bit of extra time. When you look around the league, some of the USWNT players are in and some are out. It's the same for us."
On the meeting against Racing Louisville FC earlier this season and having a better second half:
"We have to learn our lessons from past games and again this league is not forgiving if you don't switch on from the first minute. We know that we have to be on our game from the first whistle and from the start.
"We've learned from a lot of games this season, whether it's the first 10 minutes or the last 10, we really have to be able to manage the flow of the game and we want to be able to dictate that from the start."
On signing NTRP's Kelsey Hill and Elizabeth Eddy through 2023:
"It's huge for both of them. Both are in really different stages in their careers. We talk about what makes a well rounded squad, and when I look at Kelsey, she is in her first season and extremely versatile, flexible, really coachable and a joy to be around the group. She brings so much on and off the field and the kind of player that you want to add to your roster. You want a player like her in and around the league."
"Elizabeth has been a pro for years and knows how to win, compete, and has come straight in and made an impact. When a player comes in and makes an impact, you want them to be in and around the team every day. You want them to continue to challenge the roster that we have, and push to make everybody better and that includes players and staff. That's what she comes with, experience and that edge. It's been good to kind of round out the roster with them."
