Everett AquaSox News Release
EUGENE, OR: The Emeralds overcame a two-run deficit to pull off a comeback 6-4 victory over the AquaSox on Saturday night.
Early on things looked good as catcher Andy Thomas put the AquaSox on top early with a first inning solo home run. The lead was extended in the second inning as Cole Barr singled into right center field in the second inning scoring Justin Lavey for an early 2-0 lead.
The Emeralds answered back in their half of the inning, scoring four times. Carter Aldrete scored on a Simon Whiteman ground out, cutting the Sox lead to 2-1. Eugene took the lead two batters later when Hunter Bishop hit his 11th home run of the season with a three-run blast over the left center field fence for a 4-2 score.
Bishop would drive in Emery again in the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly to increase the lead to 5-2.
Thomas would do his part to try to bring the AquaSox back when he hit his second home run of the game in the sixth inning with another solo shot to trim the Emeralds lead to 5-3. It was the ninth home run of the season for Thomas,
The Emeralds would score the game's final run in the bottom of the seventh inning when Casey Schmitt hit his league leading 14th home run of the season. Eugene's pitching took care of the rest as Brooks Crawford and Nick Avila each pitched a scoreless inning to close out the game after starting pitcher held the Sox to three runs over the first seven innings.
The AquaSox went one-for-one with runners in scoring position. A contrast from the night before when they were six-for-eighteen. Thomas in his last three games is six-for-ten with three home runs. It was his first professional multi-home run game.
Max Roberts had a scoreless outing for the second time during the series, allowing two hits over 1.1 innings and striking out two.
The final game of the six-game series is scheduled for Sunday July 3. RHP Juan Mercedes (3-4, 3.19 ERA) will start for the AquaSox while RHP Mason Black (2-1, 3.00 ERA) will start for Eugene. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. with the pregame show beginning at 6:50 p.m. Tune in to 1380 AM/95.3 FM KRKO for all of the action.
