Minnesota United FC News Release

SAINT PAUL, Minn. - The Minnesota United Reserves begin their first Premier League of America season on Saturday, on the road against the Cedar Rapids Rampage. Under the leadership of Head Coach Andy Seidel, the Reserves allow United to develop talent for the first team in a competitive environment.

After two seasons in the National Premier Soccer League, the Reserves join the PLA, a fifth division league with teams in Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, and Ohio. Formerly known as the Great Lakes Premier League, the PLA is in its second season and has grown to 12 teams spread over two conferences.

Placed in the Western Conference, the Reserves will take on nearby clubs including the historic Croatian Eagles, former NPSL clubs Madison 56ers and Milwaukee Bavarians, newcomers Cedar Rapids Rampage, and new local rivals Minneapolis City SC.

The Reserves will play ten games in the regular season, facing every club in the Western Conference twice. The top two teams in each conference will move on to the playoffs at the end of the season. All home matches will be played at East Ridge High School in Woodbury.

Andy Seidel, taking over the role from Peter Rivard who is now an Assistant Coach of the first team, will lead the team.

"We want to have a strong possession team," said Seidel. "We want to be creative with our setup to allow us to play our game. The ultimate goal is to improve our squad so we can play high-level soccer and help the first team."

Seidel has been a very active member of Minnesota's soccer community. After graduating from Woodbury High School, he played four seasons for Augsburg College and was the school's leading scorer his freshman and sophomore years. Seidel went on to become a coach at multiple levels of the game including coaching at several MIAC schools including Augsburg, and as the Director of Youth Development for Woodbury Soccer Club.

Though the season is still young, Seidel is pleased with his time at the club and is excited for the future.

"It's a huge honor and a great experience so far. The guys are really happy to be training in Blaine and getting a look into the first team, and having a supportive staff and environment has been great."

The Reserves begin their season with two games in less than 24 hours. The team travels south to take on Cedar Rapids on Saturday at 7 p.m. CT followed by a home match against the Croatian Eagles on Sunday at 4 p.m. CT.
