November 28, 2007 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Youngstown SteelHounds News Release
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The Youngstown SteelHounds in conjunction with the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League announced today that goaltender Andy Franck has been called to the AHL franchise.
Franck, 26, is 11-2-1 in 14 games for the SteelHounds. He leads the Central Hockey League in wins. The Lakewood, Ohio native proved his worth early in the season as he rifled off seven straight wins to lead the Hounds to the best start in franchise history.
The 6-1, 195-pound goaltender played four years of Division I hockey at Mercyhurst College before joining the Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL. In two years with the Nailers he compiled a 60-41-9 record with eight shutouts and was named to the ECHL All Rookie and All Star teams in his first season.
"This is a great opportunity for Andy to prove he can play in the AHL," said SteelHounds Head Coach Kevin Kaminski. "He has been the backbone to our success so far and we wish him all the best in Providence."
He is the third SteelHound to be called to an AHL franchise this season. Forward Petr Pohl was called-up by the Syracuse Crunch and defenseman Stephen Margeson is currently with the Lake Erie Monsters. The Providence Bruins are the top affiliate of the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League.
The Hounds return to the road for a five game trip starting Friday when they visit the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs for an 8:05 start. All SteelHounds games are available on ESPN Radio 1240 and SteelHounds.com.
