(Peterborough, ON) - On Thursday, March 9, the Peterborough Petes hosted the Kingston Frontenacs at the PMC for their World Kidney Day Game Night.

The game was played in recognition of Petes Associate Coach, Andrew Verner, who was diagnosed with glomerulonephritis in 1999 and received a kidney transplant exactly two years ago, on March 9, 2021.

The game featured a ceremonial puck drop with Verner, his wife Allison (Alli) who is an organ donor, and Dr. Vincent Cheung. A donation page for Verner was set up through the PRHC Foundation, and a silent auction ran during the game with all proceeds in support of equipment used in the lifesaving delivery of dialysis treatment at Peterborough Regional Health Centre. In total, $16,000 (and counting) was raised on the night. A booth was also set up in the concourse to help fans register to be an organ donor.

Fans can still support Verner's fundraising page. All eligible donors will receive a charitable tax receipt.

Although the Petes would earn a point as the playoff race continues, Kingston ultimately won the game 5-4 in overtime.

Owen Beck led the way for the Petes with a goal and an assist, while Sam Mayer added two assists. Brennan Othmann, Quinton Pagé, and Tucker Robertson each had a goal, while Avery Hayes, Connor Lockhart, and Chase Stillman all picked up an assist.
