Anderson Joes News Release
As Joes manager, Desi Wilson witnesses two Anderson walk-off wins this season.
As a Joes player, Wilson added number three to the history books.
Wilson's game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning handed Anderson a 7-6 win over the Charlotte County Redfish on Saturday, in a marathon game that proved well worth it for the 1,543 fans in attendance.
In a game that volleyed back-and-forth from the first inning to the last, Anderson came out ahead in the end to win the series over Charlotte County.
With Rafael Alvarez on at second, Wilson faced a 3-0 count against Redfish closer Aristides Almenar before intentionally swinging at ball number four to set up the next pitch -- which landed in the left-center field gap.
"I just wanted that one more pitch," Wilson said. "I wanted to be in that situation because tonight I knew he was going to get that loss because I was either going to sink or swim, and I swam."
The game featured three ties and four lead changes, beginning with Wilson putting the Joes up 2-0 with his first hit of the season: a two-run double in the bottom of the first inning. A 3-for-4 night with three RBI from Jose Gutierrez helped keep the Redfish in the game, as did Anderson's three errors, which allowed two unearned runs to score.
But the Joes received Wilson's heroic performance, a 3-for-5 night with two runs from Alvarez and a 3-for-3 effort with a run and two RBI from Kevin Noles. Noles fell a home run of the cycle, hitting his first triple of the season.
Joey Muro took the win for the Joes (4-7, 17-39 overall), improving to 1-0 after allowing the Redfish to tie the game in the ninth.
Froilan Ramirez took the loss for Charlotte County (3-7, 15-40), despite the fact Wilson hit his game-winning single off Almenar.
Also making his debut for Anderson was Dallas Mahan, former Joes pitching coach who activated himself and followed in the footsteps of Wilson. Mahan threw two scoreless innings, allowing one hit and striking out three.
Anderson has a day off Sunday before returning to action at the Macon Music in game one of a six-game road trip Monday night.
"Hopefully we'll get back on the road trip and just capitalize and put teams away early and often," Wilson said.
