July 21, 2007 - South Coast League (SCL)
South Georgia Peanuts News Release

The South Georgia Peanuts, presented by Security Bank, won for the first time at Historic Luther Williams Field in Macon on Saturday night by beating the Music 11-3. With the win, The Peanuts salvaged one game of the three-game series and also continue to hold a lead in the South Coast League second half standings.

The Peanuts got things going in the top of the second inning. With Curtis Goodwin Sr. at third and Dustin Taylor at second, Johnny Washington hit a two-run single. That would be the first hit of what ended up being a great night for Washington.

South Georgia basically put the game away in the fifth inning by scoring five runs. With Joey Hooft and Nick Prosise on base, Doc Brooks hit a three-run home run. Four batters later, with Steve Butler on base, Washington picked up another two RBI by hitting his third home run of the season.

Macon did score runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to get within five runs. The Peanuts then scored another three runs in the seventh inning. With Taylor and Butler on base, Washington hit a two-run triple. Jasha Balcom then singled Washington home. The teams traded runs in the ninth inning with Washington scoring another run on a Joey Hooft single.

For the night, Johnny Washington was 4-5 with three runs and six RBI. Hooft also had a great night going 5-6 with one run and one RBI. Curtis Goodwin and Dustin Taylor, who started at first for the first time this season, each had two hits.

Austin Weilep picked up his seventh win of the season by pitching six innings and allowing one earned run on eight hits. Ja Jones and Drew Shetrone combined to pitch the final three innings to secure the win.

The Peanuts return home on Monday after a day off on Sunday. The Peanuts welcome the Bradenton Juice for a three game series. First pitch is set for 7:10 on Monday. Tickets are still available by logging onto southgeorgiapeanuts.com or visiting the Peanuts box office at Paul Eames Park on Monday.
