Charlotte County Redfish News Release
PORT CHARLOTTE, FL- The Redfish looked to rebound in the second game of the double-header against the Anderson Joes. The 'Fish sent Brandon Camardes to the hill against Jan Granado in the second game. Charlotte County got on the scoreboard first but had to comeback to claim an exciting 4-3 victory and split the double-header.
The Redfish jumped on top early in the second game as Millard Dawson drew a leadoff walk against Jan Grando, the Joes' game 2 starter. After stealing second, Dawson broke for third and drew a throw from Joes' catcher Tanner Rogers. Rogers' throw was offline and Dawson strolled home to give the 'Fish a 1-0 lead.
Brandon Camardese took the hill game 2 for the Redfish and he didn't disappoint early. Though he surrendered a leadoff walk to Brandon Carter, he got a helping hand as catcher William Plaza quickly gunned down Carter trying to take second. Rafael Alverez placed a double down the left-field line but Camadese didn't allow him go any further getting Heath Keel to fly-out to right to end the inning.
Desi Wilson, former major leaguer and former manager of the Joes, made his South Coast League debut and reached on a E5 to start the top of the 2nd inning. Camardese settled down and got three straight fly ball outs including a great leaping catch by Jason Hurst to leave Wilson stranded the Redfish lead intact. The Joes did reach Camardese their next trip to the plate as Rafael Alverez drilled a ball over the left center-field fence with a man aboard to give Anderson a 2-1 advantage.
Anderson starter Jan Granado kept the Redfish bats at bay for the next 4 innings. Granado allowed 2 hits and 3 base runners but the Redfish couldn't advance them past first base. The Joes added to their lead as with the base-loaded, a Camardese pitch came too far inside on Hector Borg to walk in a run and make the score 3-1. Andy Polk came on for Camardese, who exited with 3 ER on 4 hits, 2 walks and 4 Ks in 3.2 innings. Polk only had to throw one pitch as he got Alverez to ground out to second to end the Joes' threat.
Hurst did it with the bat this time with a double down the third baseline. Hogan made his debut sweater as he plated Hurst with a RBI single and came in to tie the ball game at 3-3. Charlotte County nudged ahead in the top of the 7th inning. After Millard Dawson and Gutierrez hit back-to-back singles, Hurst flied out to center plating Dawson and the Redfish took a 4-3 lead. Hogan followed with a singled and Gutierrez tried to score but was dead at home plate on a rope thrown by Wilson.
Aaron Easton, one of many former Joes, didn't show any sympathy to his former team as he pitched great for the Redfish in relief and kept them in the ballgame. Easton tossed 2.0 strong innings with 1 hit, 1 walk and 1 K against his old club. With a lead going into the bottom of the 7th inning, Redfish skipper Cecil Fielder called his closer Aristedes Almenar to shut down the Joes. Alveraz, who finished the night 3-for-4, picked his 2nd double of the game to lead off the inning. Blake Gailen bunted his way on and pushed Alveraz just 90 feet from tying the game. Almenar gave Wilson nothing to hit and the base were loaded. Tanner Rogers splintered his bat and lined out to Brad Thoma at second base for the 1st out. Almenar cruised from their as the struck out Richard Quihuis-Bell and Kevin Noles to end the game and reel in a 4-3 victory for the Redfish.
The Redfish and the Joes will meet in the rubber game of the series tomorrow night, July 21st. First pitch is set for 7:05 PM.
