Bridgeport Bluefish News Release
(Bridgeport, CT) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (20-15, 46-59) defeated the York Revolution (19-16, 43-62) 3-2 at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Saturday night to earn their first win in the four-game series. The Bluefish are now tied with the Somerset Patriots for the top spot in the Second Half Liberty Division Standings after the reigning First Half Champions fell 9-4 on the road to their Garden State rival Camden Riversharks.
Bridgeport Starting Pitcher David Anderson (1-0) picked up the win in his first appearance in a 'Fish uniform, tossing five and two-thirds innings, allowing one run on four hits, walking six, and striking out three. York Starting Pitcher Matt Neil (2-7) suffered the loss despite a quality start, going seven innings, surrendering three runs on eight hits, walking four, striking out four, and throwing one wild pitch. All-Star Patrick Mincey fired a scoreless ninth inning to earn his 22nd save of the 2015 campaign.
Bridgeport took the early 2-0 lead off Neil in the bottom half of the second inning on run-scoring singles by Wilson Batista and Luis Rodriguez, plating John Alonso and Bryant Nelson. York scored their first run of the night off Anderson in the top of the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly by Jose Constanza, bringing home Telvin Nash. The Bluefish answered right back in their half of the fifth with what proved to be a giant-sized insurance run as Ethan Chapman hustled down the line from third to score on a wild pitch thrown by Neil to give Bridgeport a 3-1 cushion, the second time on the night that the 'Fish had a two-run lead.
The Revoultion would not go down without a fight as they clawed their way back to within a run at 3-2 in the top of the eighth on a leadoff solo home run to right centerfield by Eric Patterson off reliever Steven Ames, his ninth big fly of the season. York now has five roundtrippers in the series, and is second overall in the Atlantic League with 76. Ames would strand the tying run in scoring position retiring three consecutive batters, striking out two in the process. The lead was handed off to Mincey, who surrendered a leadoff single to Luis De La Cruz. Former Bluefish James Simmons came on as a pinch-runner for De La Cruz, and was sacrificed into scoring position by Mikey Reynolds. Constanza popped up to Batista for the second out. Wilson Valdez represented the go-ahead run at the plate, but was left standing in the batter's box as Simmons was gunned down trying to steal third base on a perfect throw by Luis Rodriguez to Nelson who slapped the tag on Simmons, and the 'Fish sent the fans at Harbor Yard home with smiles on their faces as they were victorious on Fireworks night in the Park City. Welington Dotel and Batista led the way for Bridgeport with two hits each. Dotel extended his hitting streak to 11 consecutive games overall.
Bridgeport concludes their series with the York Revolution at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Sunday, August 16th. First pitch is scheduled for 5:35 p.m. The Bluefish will remember the legendary Elvis Presley on the anniversary of his passing with a performance by an Elvis Impersonator.
