New Mexico United News Release

(HERRIMAN, Utah) New Mexico United fell to the Real Monarchs, 1:0, on Saturday evening. Maikel Chang netted the lone goal of the evening following a controversial penalty call on Ethen Sampson, in the 59th minute.

United took their shots - thirteen total, with 3 coming in the first six minutes. Daniel Bruce's attempted cross/sneaky shot in the first minute was the most threatening. The turning point of the game was the referee's whistle early in the second half. Contact in the box forced a whistle, and penalty call against United, and the Monarch's Maikel Chang converted the chance.

Despite 60% possession and nearly 87% passing accuracy, New Mexico could not find the equalizer. They now get set for Wednesday's showdown with Minnesota United, in the quarterfinals of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup,
