Americans Head to Kent for First Time this Season

The Americans and Thunderbirds will meet tonight for just the second time in their seven-game season series.

Tri-City took a 4-3 victory in their one prior meeting this season at the Toyota Center. Adam Mechura and Lukas Dragicevic each had one goal and one assist for the Americans that night. Jordan Gavin and Ethan Ernst also scored for Tri-City. Jeremy Hanzel led the Thunderbirds with a pair of goals against the Ams. Nick Avakyan turned aside 42 of 45 shots faced to earn the win for the Americans.

Tri-City is looking to get back in the win column after a four-game losing skid, they are currently tied with the Everett Silvertips for 4th in the Western Conference with 56 points.

The Americans most recently played on Saturday, when they fell 2-1 in a shootout to the Red Deer Rebels.

Red Deer opened scoring with a shorthanded goal from Jace Isley 44 seconds into the second period. Adam Mechura tied the game for Tri-City later in the period, assisted by Jalen Luypen and Reese Belton. Mechura was also Tri-City's lone player to score in the shootout. The Czechia native has played 13 games since returning from World Juniors with six goals and 11 assists over that period. Tomas Suchanek stood strong in net with an impressive 34 saves on 35 shots.

Tri-City still has the second best power play in the WHL, behind the Kamloops Blazers at 29.7%.
