Allen Americans News Release
Allen, Texas - The Allen Americans winning streak ended at five games on Saturday night as the Americans dropped one to Rapid City 4-3 in overtime on Saturday night. Hunter Fejis scored the game winner at 1;31 of the overtime period to give the Rush their third straight victory.
Chad Costello had a two-point night for Allen to reach 100 points for a third straight season with the Americans. Costello assisted on David Makowski's first period goal to extend his point streak to 12 games tying Makowski and tying the team season-high.
The Rush dominated the second period outshooting the Americans 20 to 7 and outscoring Allen 3 to 1. Neither team scored in the third period; however Rapid City had the best chances in that final frame. The Rush were unable to cash in on a five-on-three power play, as well as a penalty shot.
The Americans went 1 for 4 on the man advantage, while Rapid City went 1 for 6. The game ended with some fireworks as both teams were assessed penalties after the game ended. Rapid City forward Hunter Fejis was given a five-minute major for spearing along with a game misconduct. Americans goalie Riley Gill was given two minutes for slashing. Both teams remained on the ice for several minutes engaged in rough play until the officials were able to get both teams off the ice.
"We gave them several opportunities tonight on bad mistakes," said Americans forward Gary Steffes. "It's disappointing to blow two, two-goal leads. The two goals they scored fifteen seconds apart in the second period gave them a lot of confidence."
The same two teams will meet on Sunday afternoon at 4:05 PM at Allen Event Center. Sunday is the 3rd annual Pucks and Paws game in Allen. Get tickets online at www.ticketmaster.com.
