Wheeling, West Virginia - The Allen Americans and Wheeling Nailers played Game 3 of the ECHL Kelly Cup Finals on Wednesday night, at WesBanco Arena with the Nailers taking a 2-1 series lead after a 3-2 victory.
Gary Steffes and Greger Hanson provided the only offense of the night for Allen, Steffes his 11th from Chad Costello and Aaron Gens in the second period, and Hanson his ECHL leading 13th on the power play in the third period, from Chad Costello and Aaron Gens, but it wasn't enough as the Nailers come away with a one-goal victory to take the series lead.
"We played well tonight, but didn't get the results we wanted." said Americans defenseman Aaron Gen's. "Their goalie made some nice saves, but we didn't test him enough. We'll fix that problem by Friday."
Allen went 1 for 3 on the power play, while Wheeling went 1 for 4. The Americans outshot the Nailers 30 to 27 for the game. Tristan King and Dyson Stevenson both left the game with injuries for Allen. Stevenson returned in the second period, but King, who left the ice in the second, remained in the locker room for the the final period.
Game 4 is back at WesBanco Arena on Friday night at 6:35 PM Central Time. Watch the Game on ECHL TV or listen online at www.hot1073fm.com.
