Allen Americans News Release
Allen, Texas - The two-time Kelly Cup Champion Allen Americans, winners of four straight AA titles and ECHL affiliate of the San Jose Sharks, announced today that the club has signed defenseman Aaron Gens to a contract for the 2016-2017 season.
Aaron Gens, a native of Baudette, Minnesota, returns for a third year in Allen, coming off two straight championship seasons with the Americans. Gens has accumulated 86 points in two years with Allen, including the most-ever by an Allen defenseman in 2014-2015 with 56.
"This is where I wanted to be," said Gens. "Allen has become a second home for me. Coach Martinson is putting together a solid team that can make another long playoff run. Our quest for five in a row begins on October 15th."
He has played in 212 games as a professional, with his best numbers as a pro coming with the Americans. Prior to Allen, he played one season each with Reading and Evansville in the ECHL, and seven games in the American Hockey League with the former Lake Erie Monsters, (Cleveland), in 2012.
He played four years of college hockey at the University of Alaska-Fairbanks from 2009-2012. Prior to that, he played four seasons of junior hockey with both the Topeka Roadrunners and Santa Fe Roadrunners of the North American Hockey League, (NAHL).
The Americans open the regular season on Saturday, October 15th against the Missouri Mavericks at 7:05 PM at Allen Event Center.
