Allentown Ambassadors News Release
The New Jersey Jackals scored in each inning except the second and eighth and pounded the Allentown Ambassadors 14-6 Monday night at Bicentennial Park.
It began in the first inning with an inside the park home run from Joe Kerrigan. The ball hit off the scoreboard in left field and bounced away from Brian Macchi. Kerrigan just beat the relay throw home to give the Jackals the 1-0 lead. One more run scored in the inning, and then the Jackals would add two in the third on a two-run home run from Carlos Pagan.
After tacking on another run in the fourth, New Jersey exploded for five runs in the fifth inning, sending 11 men up to the plate. Pagan began it all with a one out walk. Chris Rowan then doubled, followed by Keith Maxwell reaching on an error. With one run in, Craig Conway singled after Mikaela Dworken struck out. Then a two RBI double from Darren Blakely, followed by an RBI single from Joe Kerrigan. Two more singles would load the bases, but Miguel Perez, coming in relief of Tim Davidson, struck out Pagan to end the inning.
Mike Glendenning hit two mammoth solo home runs, one in the seventh and one in the ninth, as New Jersey would tack on four more runs. The Ambassadors scored three runs in the bottoms of the sixth and seventh innings, with Ryan Bordenick just missing a grand slam by about two feet. It was a two RBI double instead. Greg Schmidt came on to pitch for the Ambassadors in the ninth, the fifth pitcher used by the Ambassadors. He gave up the home run to Glendenning, then made a great play fielding a comebacker from Carlos Pagan. He struck out Keith Maxwell to end the inning. Schmidt was also 1-4 at the plate with a sacrifice fly and an RBI.
Tim Davidson took his second loss of the season, giving up 10 runs, eight earned, on 12 hits in 4 and two thirds innings pitched. Trevor Marcotte got the win, his third, giving up three runs in six innings. The loss pushes the Ambassadors back under the .500 mark, they are now 10-11 and four and a half games behind the Jackals in third place. New Jersey has the best record in the league, now 15-7. The two teams go at it again tomorrow night in the second of four games.
