Québec centerfielder Carlos Rodriguez and North Shore right-hander Klae Calvert were tabbed the Daktronics Northeast League Players of the Week on Monday for the period ending Sunday, June 15.

Rodriguez went 9-for-22 (.409) with six runs, three doubles, four home runs, 10 RBIs, a 1.091 slugging percentage and a .519 on-base percentage in six games versus Bangor and at New Jersey.

Rodriguez, who turned 26 years old last week, is a former 11th-round choice of the Boston Red Sox in 1998. He played in the Boston system for five years, topping out at Single-A Sarasota (Fla.) in 2001-02. He was born in Cuba.

For the second straight week a Spirit pitcher earned the top weekly award. Calvert followed up John Kelly's honor last week. Calvert threw a four-hit shutout versus Allentown on June 9 and allowed three runs in seven innings at Berkshire on June 15. In the two wins he walked two and struck out 17 batters.

Calvert, 26, spent two seasons in the Red Sox organization before turning to the independent leagues in 1998 with Cook County (Ill.) of the now-defunct Heartland League. He pitched in the Northern League for Schaumburg (Ill.), Sioux City (Iowa), Duluth-Superior (Minn.-Wisc.) and St. Paul (Minn.) in successive years from 1999-2002.
