Allentown Ambassadors News Release

The Allentown Ambassadors jumped out to an 8-0 lead after four innings and then hung on to beat Berkshire 10-6 Friday night at Bicentennial Park.

The Ambassadors opened the scoring in the bottom of the second inning, using five straight hits to score four runs. Rookie catcher Julio Acosta, just signed and playing his first professional game, added the last hit a two run single. The Ambassadors got four more runs off Berkshire starter Bo Acors in the bottom of the fourth. This time the walks burned Acors, who walked two and had an error committed in the field behind him. Greg Schmidt, who know has a five game hitting streak, singled and scored in both innings. Vic Davilla singled and scored in the second and doubled home a run in the fourth.

But the Black Bears fought back in the top of the fifth inning, getting five runs off Ambassador starter John Dillinger. The Black Bears used back-to-back doubles by PJ Johnston and Mack Paciorek followed by back-to-back singles by Jason Clark and Kevin Forbes to push three runs across. A Ryan Jones double and Brady Williams single later in the inning completed the scoring.

The Ambassadors tacked two more runs on in the sixth, as Jorge Diaz led-off with a single to extend his hitting streak to four games. Then Ender Gonzalez and Marlon Roche singled, followed by a Davilla RBI groundout.

The Ambassador bullpen was once again solid. Nolan Fry pitched three scoreless innings, and Carlos Gomez gave up one run in the ninth to preserve the 10-6 win. Schmidt finished the game 2-3 with two runs scored. Ryan Bordenick was also 2-3, with one run scored and two intentional walks. Jason Clark finished 3-5 with two runs scored in defeat.

The two teams go back at it tomorrow night at Bicentennial Park. It is Thunder Stick night, courtesy of Service Electric, and the Singing Nun will also be there. Game time is 7:05.
