(Tempe, Arizona) - The Central Hockey League announced today that the recipients for the Oakley Central Hockey League Player and Goaltender of the Week for the period ending January 3, 2010 are forward David Nimmo of the Amarillo Gorillas and goaltender Chris Whitley of the Allen Americans.

Nimmo helped his team to a 3-0-1 record last week scoring points in every game. The Saint Albert, Alberta native had two-goal games in the first three games of the week scoring the game winning goal in two of those contests. He finished the week by assisting on the game winning goal in the Gorillas 3-1 victory over Tulsa on Sunday. The 2008 CHL Rookie of the Year finished with six goals and an assist during the week. Nimmo has 14 goals and 11 assists in 23 games this season and is a +14.

Whitley wins the weekly honor for the second time this season (previously won the award on November 23) after going 2-0 last week with wins over Colorado and Laredo. The Oshawa, Ontario native combined to stop 74 of 78 shots (.949 save percentage) allowing four goals. His first contest saw him turn away 43 of 44 shots in a 5-1 victory over the Northern Conference leading Eagles followed up by a 31 save effort in a 4-3 win over the Bucks. On the season, the rookie goaltender leads the CHL with 16 wins and minutes played with 1361:30. His 2.73 goals against average is seventh in the league.
