Amarillo ThunderHeads News Release

AMARILLO, TX - The Amarillo Sox announced Sunday that Amarillo first baseman Cyle Hankerd's contract has been picked up and sold to the Philadelphia Phillies organization.

Hankerd will report to the Phillies advanced single-A affiliate Clearwater Threshers of the Florida State League.

2011 was Hankerd's first in independent baseball. He was drafted in the 3rd round of the 2006 draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks out of the University of Southern California. He advanced up to triple-AAA Reno in 2010 but was released after seven games. He was signed by Amarillo in the off-season.

The 6-3, 215 lbs right-hander started the season as an outfielder, but filled the position of first base following a season-ending injury to starting first baseman Chris Nash.

The Covina, California-native has hit .355 with 10 homeruns and 74 RBI. Hankerd ranks third in the league in runs (70), seventh in hits (99), tied for first in doubles (30), sixth in hit-by-pitch (13), third in RBI, and sixth in batting average.

For more information about this announcement, contact the Sox office.

After splitting the first two games, the 35-37 Sox will take on the 34-38 Shreveport-Bossier Captains Sunday for the final game of a three-game set at 6:05pm. The game can be heard by visiting www.sbcaptains.com. Game time is tentative and is subject to blackout.

Season tickets are available for purchase in-person by visiting the Sox Front Offices at 801 S. Polk or over the phone by calling (806) 242-4653.
