THE STAKES: The Dusters have not won a game since losing QB Steve Panella to injury (8 straight losses). Amarillo won the first meeting between these two teams in 2005, upsetting the Talons 62-55 in Amarillo. The Talons returned the favor last July, defeating Amarillo 42-34 in Tulsa. The Talons blasted Amarillo earlier this season, 87-38. After losing last week, the Talons need to defeat Amarillo in order to secure the Midwest Division Championship and gain a first-round bye in the 2006 playoffs.
COACH PERDUE'S THOUGHTS ON TULSA:
"We have four quarters of football left in this season, and our goal is to go to Tulsa and give them everything we've got left. They embarrassed us on our home field earlier this year. That's still in the back of our minds as we approach this game. We had a pretty solid effort last week, we just kept the same formula of turning the ball over on offense, and not capitalizing on the other team's mistakes. Tulsa is too good for that to work this week. If they make a mistake, we have to make something out of it. We have to take care of the football, and stay focused. They have a very loud arena, and it will be a big game for them."
DUSTERS HEAD COACH STEVE PERDUE
GREAT YAC JOHN KING!:
Dusters new offensive specialist John King has produced some pretty impressive YAC in his three games at the position. He is now averaging 17.6 yards per catch, most of which have come after receiving hitch passes in the 5-8 yard range. King averaged over 16 yards per catch in college.
"BIG" RAY GATES MAKES A BIG SPLASH IN HIS DEBUT
Ray Gates (6'2, 280) had an outstanding performance in his first action of the 2006 season against Bossier-Shreveport last weekend, racking up 6 tackles (5 of which were solos), 2 tackles for loss, 1 sack, and 2 batted balls. His energy and pass-rushing expertise will also be utilized in the Texas Panhandle this fall, as he serves as an assistant defensive line coach at West Texas A&M University.
