THE SERIES: It's the sixth and seventh meetings of the season between the Amarillo Bulls and the Odessa Jackalopes. The Bulls have two wins in the series with one coming on opening night and a second one in West Texas in October. The Jackalopes three victories are the most they have won ever in a season series against the Amarillo Bulls. There are still five more games between the two teams with two in Amarillo and then three in Odessa at Ector County Coliseum.
WHAT IS AT STAKE: Both teams are trying to end winless droughts that have lasted a while. After a one point winning two straight, the Bulls have dropped five in a row including two tough ones on home ice last weekend. Matt Nicholson's bunch is still looking for their first win of the new calendar year. The Odessa Jackalopes have posted just two wins since November 22 (2-11-3), and after a great start have slumped in their last 16 games including six losses in a row.
SOUTH DIVISION PLAYOFF UPDATE: The Amarillo Bulls are 15 points back of the fourth and final playoff spot in the South Division heading into this weekend's action. Amarillo has played just one more game than the Corpus Christi IceRays with the two teams still having to play four times against one another. The Odessa Jackalopes are eight point back of that fourth spot and have two games in hand on the IceRays.
STATS PACK: The Odessa Jackalopes and the Amarillo Bulls each have won eight games versus South Division Rivals this season. The Jacks lead the NAHL in shorthanded goals with nine including eight on home ice. Odessa is still one of two teams that has yet to yield a shorthanded goal against this season. That loss by the Bulls on Saturday was just the fourth one this season where they have been beaten by four goals or more in a game. Amarillo has a 3-3-0 mark in three goal games on home ice.
