
Altitude Sign Luke Recker

GREENVILLE, S.C. (December 11, 2002) - The Asheville Altitude has acquired guard Luke Recker, according to an announcement today by National Basketball Development League Executive Director Karl Hicks and Asheville Head Coach Joe Meyer. The Altitude waived guard Brandon Smith.
Recker played collegiately at both Indiana (1997-99) and Iowa (2000-02).. At 6-foot-6 and 210-pounds, he averaged 14.5 points over his freshman and sophomore seasons at Indiana and then 17.5 points per game over his junior and senior years at Iowa. He scored 1,880 points at the two schools combined for a 15.8 points per game average.
Born June 17, 1978 in Lima, Ohio, Recker finished his career at Iowa as the program's record holder for free throw percentage in a season (.885 as a senior) and in a career (.873). He garnered All-Big 10, honorable mention All-America and academic All-America honors throughout his career.
Smith played in seven games for the Altitude, starting two. He averaged 1.6 points and 1.9 rebounds per game.
Recker is expected to play Friday when the league-leading Huntsville Flight visits Asheville.
