NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (November 29) â The Asheville Altitude defeated the North Charleston Lowgators 84-80 in a close battle on Friday night. Lee Scruggs had 23 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Altitude.
Down by three points with 6 seconds to go, Damone Brown's outlet pass after a rebound was intercepted by Ryan Carroll. He split a pair of free-throws giving the Altitude a four-point advantage, putting the game out of reach with 2.9 seconds remaining.
Asheville coach Joey Meyer said, "The Lowgators are a very good team. We improvised a lot tonight, because we haven't played a zone all year. It was working so we went with it and then used a big lineup to pound the ball inside."
The Altitude led for the majority of the contest, leading by as many as 14. The Lowgators chipped and clawed their way back but could not get over the hump.
"We did a good job fighting back, but you have to execute for 40 minutes and we didn't do that. They also did a great job mixing up their defenses and we did not adjust to the end," Lowgators coach Doug Marty said.
Tierre Brown led North Charleston with 23 points and 10 assists, while Sedric Webber added 19.
Asheville received 21 points from Jeff Trepagnier and 15 from Larry Abney.
