Altitude Gets To Dazzle

March 30, 2004 - NBA G League (G League)
Roanoke Dazzle News Release

Roanoke, Va., (Mar. 30) - The visiting Asheville Altitude used a balanced scoring attack to score a 99-88 NBDL win over the Roanoke Dazzle.

The last time the two teams met (March 10) it was a battle for second place, this time it was Asheville attempting to pull into a first-place tie with idle Charleston and slumping Roanoke playing to hold on to the fourth and final NBDL playoff spot. For the visiting team it was mission accomplished.

The Altitude (24-18) led by 7 at the end of one quarter and saw the lead balloon to fifteen by the end of the half. Asheville head coach Joey Meyer was pleased with what he saw. "We did a good job defensively creating turnovers. We had some guys banged up, so I was real pleased to have survived." The Altitude turned 21 Dazzle turnovers into 21 points.

Antonio Meeking led five Altitude players in double figures with 21 points off the bench. Kareem Reid, Brandon Kurtz and Lavor Postell each contributed 13 in the winning effort.

Roanoke (20-22) was paced by hometown product Curtis Staples who scored 20 in a reserve role. George Williams added 13 points, while Geoff Owens returned to the line-up to pitch-in 12.

The Dazzle, losers of six in a row, never led in the game. Roanoke head coach Kent Davison saw it begin to unravel early. "When you can't make shots and you turn it over, you're in trouble. Those are the things that really killed us." Roanoke leads Fayetteville by just one game in the race for the final NBDL playoff spot. Both teams have four games remaining including a head-to-head match-up in Roanoke on April 9.

Asheville travels home to host Fayetteville on Friday night. The Dazzle will take to the "D" League highways, traveling to Columbus for a Friday night contest at the Columbus Civic Center.
