Montreal Alouettes News Release
Montreal - Practising under temperatures more akin to this November's Grey Cup week in Regina, the Alouettes continued preparing for the 2013 season on Day 3 of training camp Tuesday.
After an early practice in full gear, helmets and pads were shed for a second practice of walkthroughs and play assimilations.
With music playing from the Coulter Field sound system during the start of the day's first practice, the Canadian quota was nevertheless respected as players practised to songs from Great Big Sea and The Tragically Hip.
Jamel Richardson kept his word from a day prior and was back on the field Tuesday, although he did return to the sidelines throughout the day. "He probably would have stayed on the field if it wasn't for the cold since it stiffened him up," explained head coach Dan Hawkins. Arland Bruce and Brandon Whitaker were also sidelined for preventative measures.
GM Jim Popp's most recent CFL Canadian Draft picks continue to impress during camp. Steven Lumbala frustrated veteran linebacker Shea Emry when the Montreal native blocked Emry on a drill that had linebackers trying to get to the quarterback. Mike Edem on the other hand, continues to be in the running for the safety position.
"He's really talented, we really like him. We have him doing a lot of things. He can run, he's physical. He's a really good kid and he's coachable. He has a chance to get better and we're excited to have a player like him," said Hawkins of the Alouettes' first pick last month.
