Indiana AlleyCats News Release
Anderson, Indiana. Rob Blackwell, owner of the Indiana Alley Cats, announced that Carlos Knox has been named Head Coach of the Indiana Alley Cats. In making the announcement at a VIP Reception held at the Skyline Club in Indianapolis, Blackwell stated, "Carlos has some big shoes to follow. Greg Graham, with the help of Carlos and Bill Warner, put together one of the strongest teams in the ABA last season as we topped the Power Rankings for 18 straight weeks before losing a double overtime game in the playoffs. We will miss Greg, but we know that Carlos will put together a strong and very competitive team for next season. We wish Greg well also."
Carlos played high school basketball at Dayton Meadowdale in Dayton, OH. At Meadowdale, he led his team to two district 15 titles. He also collected two city league scoring titles and was a 2-time All-State player and played in the North South All-Star Game setting a record for most three pointers in a game with eight.
After high school, Knox attended the University of Tennessee at Martin. He transferred and finished his college career at Indiana University/Purdue University at Indianapolis (IUPUI). At IUPUI, he earned first team All-American status every year. He also collected two NCAA scoring titles and was the NCAA Player of the Year twice. Carlos finished his career as the most prolific men's basketball player in IUPUI history. His name is etched in the record books more than that of any other player at IUPUI. He holds all the major scoring records, including career points (2556), single-season points (927). Though best known for his scoring, Knox excelled at all facets of the game. He also holds IUPUI records for steals (204), 3-pointers attempted (499), free throws made (684) and free throws attempted (821).
Following his IUPUI career, Knox played professionally. He spent some time with the Indiana Pacers and eventually took his talents overseas for more than 6 years. Knox played in Croatia, Germany and Venezuela before returning to IUPUI during the 2001-2002 season as an assistant coach for the men's team. In the fall of 2002, he returned to Germany to resume his professional playing career. He attempted to play in the 2002-2003 season, but was stagnated by a lingering ACL injury. He then stepped into the player development ranks and has worked with several players both amateur and professional in helping with their individual skills. Carlos has a strong desire to work with players that are serious about the game and are seeking to become better players.
Knox said, "I love to incorporate what I've experienced throughout my career into another players plan to become a better athlete. It really makes me feel good and I am looking forward to this challenge. It was great working with Greg - and we will continue the Alley Cats commitment to excellence."
