Allentown Rallies in Ninth

Lynn, MA: The North Shore Spirit lost a tough game to Allentown 6-5 Wednesday night at New Fraser Field in Lynn. Allentown rallied with two outs in the top of the ninth inning scoring three runs to take the final game of the three game set.

Spirit closer Joe Ricciardi (0-4) suffered the loss allowing 4 hits and 3 runs in the ninth inning. Ambassador second baseman Vic DaVilla knocked home the tying run with a 2 RBI double to right followed by the winning hit off the bat of Ryan Bordenick.

The Spirit jumped out to a three run lead in the third. Marco Agramonte, Jason Startari and Frank Charles collected RBIs. The Spirit added single runs in the fifth and sixth inning. In the fifth Fran Riordan knocked home a run. In the sixth Yuri Sanchez, tripled and scored on a wild pitch.

Allentown closer Orlando Encarnacion (1-2) worked two scoreless inning to pick up his first win of the season.

Allentown chipped away at the Spirit lead scoring two in the fourth and a single run in the eighth to set up the big ninth inning rally.

The loss drops the Spirit to 7-9 and Allentown improves to 8-9.

The Spirit embarks on a seven day road trip beginning Friday verses the Berkshire Black Bears and Elmira Pioneers. You can follow the Spirit on the road on Flagship Station WESX AM 1230. Pre-game starts at 6:30.

Games notes: Allentown leftfielder Brian Macchi who was hit in the head by a Mike Hoyt pitch was send to the hospital for observation and returned before games end.

Spirit shortstop Yuri Sanchez went 3-4 at the plate with 2 runs scored. DH Bryan Caruso collected 3 hits while Carlos Sepulveda and Jose Castellanos had two hits a piece.

The loss snaps a Spirit 3 game win streak. For the second consecutive game the Spirit pounded out 10 or more hits. 13 was the magic number Wednesday night. Spirit second baseman Marcos Agramonte was outstanding defensively.
