Pensacola Pelicans News Release

The Pensacola Pelicans announced today the re-signing of 2009 All-Star second baseman Antoine Gray. Gray, 5'9 - 195, is coming off his best professional season after helping the Pelicans claim the 2009 South Division title in the American Association.

Gray's ferocity at the plate through 96 games garnered him a.309 batting average with 122 hits, 70 runs and 84 RBI. He led the Pelicans in three offensive categories last season: at-bats (395), home runs (14), and RBI (84). His explosive hitting produced impressive streaks in 2009: 22-game home hitting streak and a 35-game home on-base streak that started June 19 and ended with the season.

Gray's career numbers through 650 games include a batting average of.287 with 697 hits, 430 runs, and 398 RBI. Gray has hit 152 career doubles, 9 triples and 83 home runs with a.460 slugging and.374 on-base percentage.

Pelicans GM/Field Manager Talmadge "T" Nunnari said, "With the recently acquired players of Brito and Fonseca, Gray now has more RBI opportunities with more protection. Pitchers are less likely to throw around him."

Antoine Gray was originally drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the 25th round of the 2003 draft. He played single-A ball with Kannapolis in 2004 and double-A ball with Birmingham in 2005. Gray starts his eighth professional season this year and second season with the Pelicans. He was born and resides in Hattiesburg, MS and attended college at Southern A&M in Louisiana.
