WICHITA, KS- The American Association announced its starting pitchers for the University of Phoenix - Wichita Campus 2010 American Association All-Star Game on Tuesday night, as well as the contestants for the annual Home Run Derby.
Brandon Sing (23), Reggie Abercrombie (18), and Beau Torbert (16), all of Sioux Falls, participate in the derby for the North Division. Grand Prairie's Greg Porter (12), and Shreveport-Bossier's Christopher Garcia (10) and Palmer Karr Jr. (10) represent the South.
The event consists of three rounds with players receiving five outs per round. Any swing that is not a home run is considered an out. Any ties result in a 'blast off' where the participants alternate one swing at a time until one has hit a home run and the other has recorded an out. The Home Run Derby caps off the skills competitions which also include a relay throw race and catcher's accuracy contest. The events begin at 5:30 p.m.
Wichita Wingnuts' right-hander Nick Singleton takes the mound in his home ballpark for the North. Singleton is 7-3 and leads the American Association with a 2.29 ERA. Shreveport-Bossier righty Osvaldo Rodriguez starts for the South. Rodriguez leads the league with 10 wins against only one loss and is seventh with a 3.71 ERA.
A 7:10 p.m. first pitch is scheduled at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.
