Buffalo Destroyers News Release
(BUFFALO, NY) - Buffalo Destroyers Head Coach and General Manager Ray Bentley announced today he has re-signed OL/DL Kerwin Hairston to a two-year contract.
Hairston (6-3, 295 lbs.) was selected to the Arena Football League's All-Rookie Team in 2001 after a record setting campaign. He set the Destroyers single game sack record with two in week three against the New York Dragons. He also set the teams' single season sack record with 5.5 last season. Hairston finished last season with 13 tackles and two forced fumbles. On offense, he caught five passes for 70 yards and two touchdowns.
"Kerwin really came on strong last year and ended up as one of the better two-way lineman in the entire league," said Bentley. "It's great to know he is coming back to anchor the line for the next couple of years."
Hairston suited up for the Roanoke Steam of the AF2 in 2000, registering 30 tackles, 3.5 sacks and forced two fumbles.
A Martinsville, Virginia native, he was a two-year starter at defensive tackle for Virginia Tech. Hairston was a first-team All Big East selection his senior year and named the teams' Most Outstanding Defensive Lineman.
The Destroyers take the field Friday, April 19, against New Jersey at the HSBC Arena. Get your season and group tickets now. Call (716) 881-4444 today!
