SAN DIEGO - The 14-time champion San Diego Sockers and AMOtivational Communications and Consulting today announce a partnership for the 2019-20 Major Arena Soccer League season. Alex Montoya, the owner of AMOtivational Communications and Consulting, will work with the Sockers' marketing and communications departments with the shared goal of expanding and improving the club's outreach into the San Diego County Latino community.
"I have known A-Mo for years and have so much respect for his work with the Padres as well as his position in our community as a motivational speaker, author, and overall human being," said Craig Elsten, the chief marketing officer for the Sockers, "We are thrilled to be partnering with Alex and look forward to a fruitful relationship."
One of America's most popular public speakers, Montoya is a TED X speaker and motivational author who has published six books, and the recipient of a "Lifetime Achievement Award" from the San Diego Hispanic Chamber.
The San Diego Padres created the position of Manager of Latino Relations for Montoya, which he held from 2006 to 2015. In 2015, Montoya formed AMOtivational Communications and Consulting, which produces inspirational books and talks, and coaches clients in writing and speaking.
"As a lifelong Sockers fan, I am thrilled to be involved with one of San Diego's athletic treasures," said Montoya of the collaboration, "For nearly ten years, I was involved with Latino community outreach for the San Diego Padres, and look forward to bringing that expertise, passion, and pride to the Sockers. This organization truly appreciates and values the Latino segment of its fan base, and has thrown the doors wide open to welcome more people into the family."
Winners of fourteen professional indoor soccer championships, the San Diego Sockers will feature up to five players born and raised in nearby Tijuana, and boast a roster loaded with talent from Mexico and Brazil as well as the United States. The club seeks to expand its presence in the Latino community throughout the county, while promoting a message of welcome and inclusivity.
"Skill has no border in our sport," said Elsten, "If you can play the game at the highest level, you are welcome to have your talents shine on our club. Connecting our exciting players and the culture of our team to San Diego in a more meaningful way while winning and securing championships is our enduring goal."
The Sockers will announce further bilingual initiatives as the 2019-20 MASL season approaches. The club's home and season opener will take place on Sunday, November 24 at 5:05pm at Pechanga Arena San Diego. The full MASL schedule for the 2019-20 season is expected to be released soon.
