Tacoma Rainiers News Release

Albuquerque N.M., - The Tacoma Rainiers (46-48) fell to the Albuquerque Isotopes (48-46) 6-5 Monday night at Isotopes park in Albuquerque.

Rainiers starter Christian Bergman (7-1) allowed six runs on 10 hits and one walk across five innings during his tenth start of the season.

Tacoma was led on offense by center fielder Leonys Martin (3x5, R), left fielder Tyler O'Neill (3x4, 2 R, 3 RBI, HR) and shortstop Tyler Smith (2x4, R, RBI, HR).

The Isotopes took the first lead of the game when Dustin Garneau drilled a line-drive home run just over the wall in left center, moving the score to 1-0 in favor of Albuquerque.

An infield dribbler, an erroneous throw and excellent base running allowed the Rainiers to tie the game during the top of the third. Martin led off the inning with his second infield base hit of the game. O'Neill then hit a ground ball that just barely made it into center field, allowing Martin to get to third base from first. When the Isotopes made the relay to third, O'Neill advanced to second. The 'Topes then made a throw to second to attempt to throw out O'Neill and Martin came across home plate to score and tie the game at 1-1.

After pushing across another run in the third, Albuquerque mounted an incredible two-out rally during the bottom of the fourth. Back to back singles and a walk loaded the bases for David Dahl, who lifted a three-run triple to center field and extended the 'Topes lead to 5-1. Ryan McMahon added a single to right field that drove in another run and extended Albuquerque's lead to 6-1.

First baseman Daniel Vogelbach drilled a sky-high double off the wall in right center and scored O'Neill from first, cutting the Rainiers deficit to 6-2 during the top of the fifth.

Tyler Smith's homer in the sixth and O'Neill's two-run blast over the center field wall in the seventh cut the Tacoma deficit to 6-5, but the Rainiers were unable to score again.

The Rainiers and Isotopes return to action Tuesday for a doubleheader matchup. Right hander Cody Martin (0-0, 3.47) will take the mound for the Rainiers and righty Matt Flemer (3-6, 6.37) will get the start for the 'Topes for the first game. First pitch is scheduled for 3:35 p.m. Neither team has announced a starter for the second game.
