Albany Firebirds News Release
BOSSIER CITY, LA - Every one of Quarterback Stephen Wasil's offensive possessions ended in a Firebirds touchdown except for his final clock-killing drive as Albany out-gunned the Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings 54-41 Saturday night at the CenturyTel Center.
A missed extra-point and a failed two-point conversion are all that separated the two sides after thirty minutes of play, as the Battle Wings led Albany 28-26 at the half. Albany took its first lead of the game on the opening drive of the third quarter when receiver Christian Wise caught his team-leading third score of the night. The teams continued to exchange touchdowns to make it 40-35 Firebirds late in the third quarter, but a Wise interception put an end to the blow-for-blow contest, as a QB-keeper from Stephen Wasil gave Albany the first two possession lead of the night. Each team would add another score in the fourth quarter, but linebacker Alvin Ray Jackson iced the 54-41 Firebirds win by picking Battle Wings quarterback Kinsmon Lancaster in the Firebirds endzone with less than two minutes remaining in the game.
Both offenses exchanged touchdowns on the first eight drives of the night; Bossier-Shreveport's Buchie Ibeh accounted for three scores and Jason Schule added six on the ground, but Albany responded with Wasil's first rushing touchdown of the night, two passing strikes to Wise and a touchdown grab from Jackson. The Firebirds defense came-up with the first stop of the half for either defense with 3.9 seconds left in the third quarter on a sack and forced fumble deep in Battle Wings territory, but kicker Brain Umstead could not convert on the go-ahead field goal attempt as time expired.
