Albany Firebirds News Release

Albany, N.Y., February 27, 2004 - The Albany Conquest Treasures Dance Team, professional dance team for the Albany Conquest of arenafootball2, has chosen 23 dancers to be a part of their 2004 squad. The Treasures, which perform at each of the Albany Conquest's home games at the Pepsi Arena, will make their 2004 season debut at the Guilderland Chamber of Commerce Family Expo & Trade Show at Crossgates Mall on Sunday, February 29 from 2:45 to 3:15 p.m. The Albany Conquest home opener is against the Manchester Wolves on April 16 at 7:30 p.m. The home opener will feature performances by the Albany Conquest Treasures Dance Team and the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders.

Carla Domenico is returning for a second year as director and choreographer of the Albany Conquest Treasures Dance Team. A local choreographer, Carla's routines are primarily influenced by jazz and hip-hop. She has even choreographed for Nikki Cleary, a Jive Recording artist. Her focus for this season is to create a halftime performance that is more than simply dancing, but is a real show.

"We have a talented group of girls on the squad," said Domenico. "That, mixed with high energy dancing and plenty of costume changes, should make for a great show that really motivates the crowd," she added.

Albany Conquest General Manager Robert Zeig believes the presence of the Albany Conquest Treasures Dance Team is an integral part of the experience at home games. "Our aim is to provide the best sports entertainment in the Capital Region and the Albany Conquest Treasures Dance Team are part of that entertainment," said Zeig. "We have put together a top-caliber squad for this season. The tryouts were incredibly competitive and we were able to assemble a group of exceptionally talented and attractive dancers to represent the Conquest," he added.

The 2004 Albany Conquest Treasures Dance Team includes seven returning veterans from last year's squad, which consisted of twelve dancers. There are 16 dancers who will join the squad for the first time this season. The new members of the Treasures were chosen out of 48 girls that tried out during open auditions held in January at World Gym in Saratoga Springs and ABC Sports and Fitness in Latham.

The 2004 Albany Conquest Treasures Dance Team members are: Nikki Bowen of West Sand Lake, NY; Joanna Butterfield of Clifton Park, NY; Dana Cafaro of Niskayuna, NY; Lori Carlson of Niskayuna, NY; Jennifer Carey of Latham, NY; Mary Catania of Loudonville, NY; Jonelle Cislo of Amsterdam, NY; Jodi Corideo of Guilderland, NY; Jennifer Eastman of Albany, NY; Tara Garmley of Cropseyville, NY; Becky Heiberg of Albany, NY; Edwina Kaliku of Albany, NY; Jennie Klym of Schenectady, NY; Keeley Maloney of Albany, NY; Heather McGivern of Albany, NY; Lori Ostrander of Schenectady, NY; Christina Poleto of Watervliet, NY; Karilyn Puccio of Valatie, NY; Donnaya Robinson of Albany, NY; Vicki Rocheleau of Schenectady, NY; Lauren Shea of Duanesburg, NY; Katrina Sokal of Clifton Park, NY; and Cheryl Thomas of Schenectady, NY.

Of the 23 dancers on the 2004 Albany Conquest Treasures Dance Team, 20 will dance at each of the Conquest home games and three will serve as alternates. The Treasures perform two dances per game, one prior to kick-off and another at halftime. The professionally choreographed shows include dancing, kicking, and tumbling.

In addition, the Treasures spend much of the rest of the game performing smaller scale dances at the corners of the end zones and are part of a post-game autograph session with fans. The dance team members make various public appearances as well. The dancers attend Conquest post-game parties and represent the team at community events that include fundraisers, youth organization functions, and appearances on television and on radio. The Guilderland Chamber of Commerce Family Expo & Trade Show at Crossgates Mall this Sunday will be the first performance by the 2004 Albany Conquest Treasures Dance Team.

Albany Conquest football players are also part of the post-game autograph session. The Conquest has won consecutive arenafootball2 Northeast Division Championships in 2002 and 2003.
