Manchester Wolves News Release
MANCHESTER, N.H. (February 27, 2004) - The arenafootball2 league office announced today that linemen Mike Wells and Darnerius Watson have been assigned to the Manchester Wolves. The Wolves, New England's newest professional football team, now have 25 players officially on their training camp roster. Training camp begins on Thursday, March 18.
Wells, a 6-2, 285-pound native of Salem, N.H., started all 33 games in which he played during his final three seasons at UNH (1999-2001). He finished his four-year career with the Wildcats with 166 total tackles and 26 tackles for loss. After graduating from UNH in 2002, Wells joined Geoff Harlan's coaching staff at Saint Anselm College as the Hawks' offensive line coach. He has served in that capacity for the past two years. Wells will likely see action on the offensive and defensive line for the Wolves in 2004.
"Mike should be a great addition to our cast up front," Wolves Head Coach Rik Richards said. "He had a real nice career at UNH and I expect him to come here ready to go. He's looking forward to playing in front of his family and friends."
Watson rejoins former college teammate and line mate Jabari Beauford with the Wolves. The 6-2, 300-pound native of Longview, TX, was the anchor on the Cougars offensive line during his junior and senior seasons (2000, 2001). Prior to his work at Houston, Watson played two years at Kilgore Junior College. This season Watson will also be expected to handle the double duty of playing offensive and defensive line for the Wolves.
"Darnerius is right at home in the trenches," Richards said. "He and Jabari (Beauford) should do well because they're so familiar with each other's tendencies."
Don't miss the Wolves first season of hard-hitting action in New Hampshire. Season ticket packages for the Wolves are available for dream, lower bowl and upper bowl seats and start as low as $112.
The Wolves kick off their inaugural season in New Hampshire on Saturday, April 10 at 7:30 p.m. against the Quad City Steamwheelers at the Verizon Wireless Arena. That night will truly be historic as the Manchester Wolves host the first arena football game ever played at the Verizon Wireless Arena.
