Albany Firebirds News Release
Albany, N.Y., July 21, 2004 â The Albany Conquest of arenafootball2 will play their final home game of the 2004 season on Friday evening against the Manchester Wolves at Pepsi Arena in Albany. N.Y. The game will kickoff at 7 p.m. and country music duo Montgomery Gentry will perform a full concert following the conclusion of the game. The concert is slated to begin at about 9:30 p.m.
Montgomery Gentry performs Billboard Magazine's No. 1 single, "If you ever stop loving me" and released the album "You Do Your Thing" on May 18.
The Albany Conquest officially fell out of postseason contention last week with a 55-31 loss on the road against the W-B/Scranton Pioneers at Wachovia Arena in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. With pride still on the line, the Albany Conquest will face Northeast Division rival Manchester Wolves in what will be a fiercely contested game.
" They're a tough team and there's no doubt about that. They're better than their record indicates, and just because there are no playoff implications doesn't mean that this game won't have compelling elements to it," said Albany Conquest Head Coach Rick Buffington. "Anytime you play a team that is in your division, it's a blood rivalry. I expect both clubs to display grit and toughness. This one will be an absolute dog-fight."
The Albany Conquest and the Manchester Wolves have eight previous meetings to date on the turf, with the Conquest getting the upper hand five of those eight games. This season the Conquest and the Wolves have met twice, with Manchester bringing home wins in both meetings. Albany fell to the Wolves 47-34 on April 16 at Pepsi Arena and again 51-34 on the road on April 30.
Albany offensive specialist Tony Locke comes into the game having tied the Conquest overall record for total touchdowns in a season last week against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton with 36 (Corey Hill, 2002).
Tickets are on sale at the Pepsi Arena Box Office and are also available by calling Ticket Master charge-by-phone at (518) 476-1000 or at www.ticketmaster.com. Ticket prices, which include both the game and the concert, are set at $43.50, $33.50, and $23.50. More information is available by visiting www.albanyconquest.com or by calling the Conquest offices at (518) 487-2222.
