Alaska hires Floyd Johnson as offensive coordinator

January 7, 2009 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
Alaska Wild News Release

After the Alaska Wild finished last in passing and first in rushing in 2008 in the Intense Football League, it was decided that numerous offensive improvements needed to be made.

With six quarterbacks behind center in 2008, the Wild have three quarterbacks in 2009 that can be relied on if the position is plagued by injuries again. The Wild have also added tremendous speed and athleticism to the wide receiver position.

The Indoor Football League has instituted new offensive rules, one which allows two wide receivers to be in motion at the same time. Finding an offensive mind who could bring expertise with the 'double motion' and assist Head Coach Hans Deemer has been a priority for the Wild since the merger in September. On Tuesday, the Wild hired Floyd Johnson to be the offensive coordinator. Johnson has extensive experience on both offense and defense with the 'double motion' and was most recently the head coach of the New Mexico Wildcats of the AIFA in 2008. Johnson was also the head coach of the Colorado Wildcats of the NIFL (National Indoor Football League) from 2005-2006 and the defensive coordinator, defensive backs and wide recievers coach for the San Angelo Stampede in 2004. Johnson also played wide reciever and defensive back for the Colorado Wildcats, Wichita Stealth and Mobile Wizards of the AF2 and the Arizona Rattlers of the Arena Football League. Coach Johnson has also had workouts with the Oakland Raiders and Minnesota Vikings during his playing days.
