
AirHogs Split Doubleheader to Open Series vs. Chicago

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - The Texas AirHogs split a doubleheader vs. the Chicago Dogs Monday at AirHogs Stadium, coming back to win the first contest 3-2 before falling 6-1 in the finale. Correlle Prime finished the twinbill 3 for 5 with three runs scored, a triple, a walk, and an RBI.
Texas starter Gan Quan fired three straight scoreless innings in Game 1 before being tagged for a home run by Joe Benson to put Chicago up 2-0 in the fourth. RBIs by Prime and Casio Grider would equal the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the fourth vs. Chicago starter Tommy Thorpe.
Gan would last 5.1 innings, outdueling Thorpe by limiting Chicago to four hits and two runs (two earned). Thorpe went the same distance, allowing five hits and three runs (three earned). Gan received a no-decision, while Thorpe would suffer the loss to drop to 1-3 on the year.
In the sixth, Prime reached on a leadoff walk and moved first to third on a base hit by Grider. He would score on a double steal to push the AirHogs ahead 3-2. Carlos Contreras entered in the seventh and earned his sixth save of the season. Taylor Wright, who relieved Gan in the sixth, picked up the win to move to 1-1 this season.
Zhu Jinghao got the start for the AirHogs in Game 2 and was tagged for a pair of runs in the first. He would settle in to fire four straight scoreless innings but would ultimately suffer the loss to go to 0-4 on the season.
Kylin Turnbull (3-4) got the start for Chicago and scattered six hits over five innings, limiting the AirHogs to just one run (one earned) on an RBI base hit by Dillon Thomas in the fourth. The Dogs scored four times in the seventh against Yang Yanyong, Ran Song, and Zheng Chaoqun to put the game out of reach.
Texas (15-40) will meet the Chicago Dogs (21-33) meet again tomorrow at 7:05. RHP Sun Jianzeng (0-4, 6.89 ERA) will start for Texas vs. RHP Connor Root (2-7, 5.98 ERA) for Chicago. A live stream will be available at mixlr.com/TXAirHogs and americanassociationbaseball.tv.
